If you wish to study at an Austrian university and experience life as an Austrian student, consider the following steps before embarking on your project.

You will need a high school diploma equivalent to the Austrian certificate, recognized by Austrian universities.

You can start the registration process once you meet the general admission requirements of the Austrian university.

Please note that some Austrian universities require official registration procedures, while others do not. Therefore, you should contact the university directly in a timely manner to avoid missing the registration deadline, as the process takes longer for students from outside the European Union.

There are three types of higher education institutions in Austria: government universities, private universities, and universities of applied sciences.

Before applying for a student visa at the Austrian embassy, you need to obtain a formal acceptance letter from the Austrian university. Visa applications without the letter will not be accepted, and incomplete applications will be rejected outright.

Please submit your application at least six months before your intended travel date to Austria to obtain the visa.

Student Visa Requirements:

• Valid passport
• Birth certificate, authenticated and translated
• Recent passport-sized photos (3.54.5 or 45 cm). Refer to the provided link for more information on photos.
• Certificate of good conduct
• Acceptance letter from the Austrian educational institution (Studienplatzbewilligung)
• Financial sufficiency letter covering living expenses during the stay
• Proof of accommodation in Austria, such as a rental contract
• Health insurance covering medical expenses in Austria of at least 30,000 euros
• Visa fees are paid at the visa section of the embassy in your country of residence.

All documents submitted must be translated into German and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The application should include a copy of each document.
